*THIS IS A PREORDER. Each mudmouse is made by hand in very small batches and takes approximately 6 to 8 weeks to fulfill.
In Jewish mythology, mudmice were said to arise from the edge of creation. They are creatures formed from half earth and half flesh, born of spontaneous generation in swampy ground. These sculptural mudmice are handmade from earthenware clay, strange and sweet and silent, with tails curled and ears perked as if listening.
Each mudmice is a tiny familiar. They are not toys or simple trinkets, but small-bodied reminders of what can form unexpectedly in stillness, softness, and soil. They remind us of the wonders of the earth when we try to make sense of the unexplainable.
- Handbuilt sculpture: slight variations in posture, texture, or shape are part of their nature.
- Kiln-fired earthenware with painted on underglaze, covered in glossy deep brown and clear glaze.
- Treat gently, like any small and mythic thing.
